The association Jatun Yacu eV supports a program for disabled children and young people in the rainforest of Ecuador, close to the province capital Tena.
The association has set itself the task of helping the handicapped, particularly children with learning difficulties in this part of Ecuador. Specifically, this happens in a small village on the eponymous river “Jatun Yacu”, where several disabled children and young people live with their families.
With the support of sponsors we built in the years 2014/2015 the first sheltered workshop in the rainforest. It was build in the traditional way, using material from the rainforest like palm leaves for the roof and only with the help of the community. Our aim is to give the resident disadvantaged children and young people a practical education that opens up a field of activity and enhanced integration into village life. The practical training includes traditional crafts of the indigenous population (bracelets, earrings made out of natural materials, etc.) as well as other skills, including sewing, weaving, and socialization. In addition, we support the holistic development of children and young people through rhythm, music and dance classes.
